Sikh Youth Gurmat Week

Sikh Youth Gurmat Week 2013, Makindu

Following the resounding success of previous Smagams held in Kericho, Mombasa, Makindu, Brackenhurst, Lukenya, Greensteds (Nakuru) and Acacia, we proudly announce the 10 Gurmat Smagam 2013 in collaboration with the Hemkunt Jatha to be held at Makindu Gurdwara Sahib from the 5th to 10th August 2013.

In its tenth year, the Smagam has now become an annual event on the East African Sikh Calendar and for the past ten years our youth have received benefit learning kirtan, Sikh history, Gurbani and Gurmukhi along with socialising with other Sikh youth from various parts of the world. The ultimate goal of such an event is only felt and realised in the longer term, when our current generations will be equipped with knowledge and assurance on the path of our Gurus’ teachings.

The credit for all of this goes to YOU, the sewadar who has willingly and selflessly contributed to the success of the smagams. As you know, an undertaking of this magnitude cannot succeed without the moral, physical and financial support of well wishers such as yourselves, who have always come forward and adequately financed the shortfalls in our budget. In fact last year we had a small surplus which we are carrying forward into this year’s budget.

The finances of the smagam are an area which requires a collective drive and support. The total cost of holding the smagam this year is over Kshs. 1 million. We hope to receive assistance from local Gurdwaras and supporting organisations like yourselves. iSikh always works in close collaboration with the Gurdwaras in East Africa and have the blessings and support of the entire sangat.

We shall end the event with a colourful thank you brunch on Saturday the 10 Makindu Sahib, and request for your presence there as well.

The buses will leave as follows:-

Nanaksar Gurdwara, Brookside:- 8:30 AM
South C Gurdwara:- 8:30 AM
